December was a very hard month for Sujatha and me as December 23rd was the 5th anniversary of our three children’s home-going. I was unable to focus on some of my responsibilities including completion of this newsletter. Due to my delays, I am combining the November and December newsletters. October, November, and December are the most difficult months for Sujatha and me on a personal level. Our son Aaron’s birthday is October 5th, Joy’s birthday is November 2nd; Sharron’s birthday is November 13th, and December 23rd is the day they were called to be with The Lord. I don’t know why, but I have been sadder this year than at any other time since they went to be with the Lord. I humbly ask each of you to remember us in your prayers during this difficult season.

We don’t know if we should weep for our brethren going through severe daily persecution in other parts of India or if we should be happy that we are not being physically harassed in our area. Manipur State has been in turmoil since May 3rd, 2023. Churches in north India are under attack, worship services are disrupted, leaders are beaten and arrested, and church building are demolished almost every day. In November, elections will be held in five India States. Indian Christian Leaders thought the attacks would diminish as elections approached but they are intensifying. Please join us as we pray for peace and the safety of our Christian brothers and sisters.

We praise the Lord for bringing teams to India to encourage and train GBBM leaders. Harvest Church of Memphis sent a team in September to provide training. 145 people including GBBM church planting pastors (CPPs), their wives and many second line leaders attend the meetings and enjoyed the fellowship, learning and sharing.

Sujatha and I are very excited about our new home that was recently completed. During our 22 years of marriage, Sujatha and I had to move our family many times. Our children always wanted a permanent home where they would have the freedom to play and where we could live without an abundance of restrictions from the landlords. They always wanted a house so that we didn’t have to move every time our neighbours or our landlord became upset with us because of our faith or the GBBM ministry. If I have any regrets regarding our children, it is that we couldn’t give them a place they could call their home. BUT today the home we built was largely financed with the help of their insurance money. Of course, we praise God because we know they are currently living in their eternal home! We thank all the churches and families who extended their support in helping us complete our home.

The GBBM and ABS teams were very thankful as we celebrated Christmas and GBBM’s 20th anniversary over the last few months, but we were excited to return to our normal activities of ministering to our students, sharing the Gospel, discipleship and attending our normal worship services.

I am writing this letter with mixed emotions. We are very excited and grateful as we reflect on God’s amazing work among the Banjara people during 2022. At the same time, we are grieving the loss of four brothers from Harvest Church Memphis. These men were called home after a plane crash in Texas on January 17th, 2023.

Sujatha and I thank God for bringing us safely back to India. We had a wonderful time visiting with our friends and brothers and sisters in Christ while in the US. We are so thankful for the different churches and families who shared their time and love with us during our visit. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacation time. I understand from my conversations with friends in the US that it has been very hot in many parts of the country. If it makes you feel any better, during the month of May it was very hot in India. Most days the temperature was between 115- and 120-degrees Fahrenheit. As you might imagine, I am looking forward to my next trip to the US so I can enjoy some of the cool 90 – 100-degree temperature days you are experiencing.

During the March training meeting, we studied 49 commandments from the teachings of Jesus Christ. The study was a wonderful reminder of His love and concern for us. All GBBM leaders are excited to share the commandments with our church members
